2004 KWGA/NATASHA MATSON FIFE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

2004 Scholarship WinnerAshley Brown, daughter of Steve and Valee Brown, Osage City is the 2004 scholarship recipient. Ashley played her first round of golf at age 14 and four years later she carried a 2.2 Handicap Index. Ashley says that the impact golf has had on her life was very surprising. “It has given me a sense of accomplishment that no other sport has. Through golf, I have learned discipline, game etiquette and sportsmanship that will follow me throughout my life”, Ashley said.

Ashley has played in five KWGA Junior Championships and one KWGA State Amateur Championship. She tied for second in the 2003 KWGA State Amateur as the low junior.

With little golfing experience, Ashley managed a stellar career at the 4A high school level. She is a member of the National Honor Society and her 3.6 GPA in high school was achieved while taking honor courses in advanced science and mathematics.

During high school, Ashley held jobs with her local golf course maintenance crew and also at a local restaurant. Between school and employment, Ashley has volunteered over 300 hours of community service as a camp counselor, has tutored students in mathematics, participated in various fund-raisers and provided assistance to local nursing home residents.

One KWGA member described Ashley as a serious student, concerned citizen, and fun loving teenager. Her employer said she was “pleasantly surprised with Ashley because she exhibits a maturity beyond her years. Ashley’s principal stated “Ashley has much to offer. She is bright, capable, caring and possesses leadership skills that will help her in her future endeavors.”

Please join KWGA in congratulating Ashley in being awarded the 2004 KWGA scholarship. She will be attending Sam Houston State University.
