This year's recipient is Adin Stromgren, daughter of Jeff and Stephanie Stromgren, from Topeka. She carries a 2 USGA Handicap Index, and has participated in twelve KWGA junior tournaments, two KWGA amatuer tournaments and numerous high school tournaments. Adin was diagnosed with a benign bone tumor in her hip when she was two. The next two years she had three broken hips, two surgeries and spent numerous days in the hopital. Doctors thought she would never walk on her own, but through sheer will and determination Adin proved them wrong. One of her letters of recommendation had this to say; "The fighting spirit she possessed, even at the young age, in overcoming the obstacles and challenges she faced helped form her into the strong and determined young woman she has become." Adin's golf coach said "Adin always arrived with a smile on her face and an uplifting energy ready to help the team in any way she could." Her grade point average is 3.7 while taking a full schedule of courses such as Honors Geometry, Chemistry and Spanish. Adin has participated in track, cheerleading, softball, soccer, dance and music. She organized and participated in school supplies drive for children of the Topeka Rescue Mission. She served as cheer instructor for under-privileged children at Hope Street Academy. Adin will be attending Texas State University in the fall. |
